When I was 21, I started as an analyst at Deloitte making $72,500.

I remember asking my friend, Jason, if he thought we’d ever make over $100K. He swiftly replied, “Of course we will.”

Looking back, it seems obvious, but I never thought it was possible because I didn’t see it in my family. Living off a $100K salary for a family of 6 had its challenges.

Of course, I quickly did make over $100K when I moved into my first tech job and then made even more money climbing the corporate ladder.

Suddenly, it was “easy” to make $100K (just join a tech company!), but there came a point where I didn’t want to make money doing something for someone else.

I wanted to work on something more meaningful.

Something that I could look back on my death bed and tell myself, “I’m proud I built that” or at least, “I’m proud I tried.”

So despite the high, comfortable salary, I walked away from it to make money on my own.

Since then, I’ve built out multiple income streams—from fractional product marketing to event freelancing to coaching to teaching… there’s more where that came from.

I still don’t FEEL like an expert, but I do think I’ve had learnings putting myself out there, trying, and failing (sometimes publicly) that can help those of you who are wanting to do something similar.

I've now had hundreds of conversations with women (and some men, too!) who want to build income outside their 9-5. Most of them ask me this question:

"Okay, but where do I actually start?"

So this week I want to break it down, step-by-step.

The 5-step framework to your first income stream
