At least I'm flying free

Quitting my job, turning 31, and more updates from the past few months

It’s been a few months, but I’m back with these newsletters after officially quitting my job earlier in November and taking some time to reflect. It’s been a long time coming, and I have felt a few different emotions over the past month—grateful, relieved, excited, nervous, happy!

To rewind, I took a leave of absence in August, so I haven’t been working for a few months. However, November is when I officially left my company.

During this time, I’ve been doing a mix of things but mostly, I’ve just been living life—hanging with friends, spending time in nature, experimenting with things that bring me joy.

Without the pressure I was putting on myself to stay in a job I didn’t enjoy, I’ve experienced life with a greater sense of openness…and while I’m not a “woo woo” person, I do believe that in order to make space for something new, you have to say no to the things that don’t serve you.

After leaving my job, I’ve…

  • …landed a contracting gig to help plan a corporate retreat in San Diego

  • …connected with three event agencies to get on their roster of freelancers and contractors

  • …joined the planning committee for Women in Innovation

  • …turned 31 🎉

  • …re-started this newsletter and my path toward a purpose-driven business!

What’s next?

I’m using this time to find roles in the events and community space, preferably freelance but open to full-time if something great comes along. I’m also continuing to work on starting my own business. TBD on what that’ll look like but excited to share in real-time as I figure it out!

I have lots more to say about how I quit and overcame my financial fears that I’ll share in future newsletters. For now, I thought it was appropriate to give this newsletter a name to reflect how I feel…free!

If you have time, feel free to let me know what you think.

Until next time,
Maggie
