I had dinner with a friend last night. We met at Deloitte on our very first project, and we reconnected as she recently moved back to New York.
She’s the type of friend who is the definition of ambitious. She’s sharp, type A, even got her MBA.
She worked in CPG for years, climbing and getting promoted until she got burned out. Now, she’s the COO at a CPG startup but debating a few options for what’s next in her career.
Should she get a full-time job in tech for the benefits and salary? (she’s a contractor now)
Should she start advisory work on the side? (but how would that sit with the CEO? and who would she even work with?)
Should she quit and use her expertise to buy and scale a “boring” business? (something she’s done before but never with her own capital)
Some of these decisions are binary (yes/no).
But others I think build on top of each other.
