Money (used to) rule everything around me
What I've realized is that if you don't heal your mindset around money, you'll still feel the same no matter the # in your bank account
When you make your own money, it's a pretty powerful and freeing feeling.
I still remember the moment I opened my first paycheck from my first job folding clothes at the outlet mall near my house—I thought I was rich!
But growing up, I never learned how to save or spend money… and I certainly never thought about my MINDSET when it came to money.
That's because in my household, money was a point of contention, which influenced me to view money as scarce, like I was going to lose it all at a moment's notice.
When it comes to your career, the way you view money has a BIG influence on our decisions. When we tell ourselves things like…
“I can't negotiate my new compensation because we're in a competitive job market.”
“I can't take a new job that makes less than what I'm making now.”
“I can't build a business doing what I love and make a lot of money.”
…this causes us to believe it (and stay stuck).
While these thoughts are valid and can feel so real, what I've realized is that if you don't heal your mindset around money, you'll still feel the same no matter the # in your bank account.
Flip the script to change your money mindset:
Instead of telling ourselves the stories above, we can re-write them:
“Even though the market is competitive, I've shown my value during the interview process, and know what I'm worth.”
“Taking this new job might help me grow and learn new skills to make even MORE money in the long run.”
“Many people have businesses doing what they love AND make a lot of money. Why not me?"
Another thing I've been loving is absorbing myself with stories from real people going through real challenges when it comes to money.
Here are some of my favorite money-related podcasts I've been listening to lately:
I Will Teach You To Be Rich with Ramit Sethi: Ramit talks to real couples about their finances. It's basically a mix of financial therapy and budgeting/investing/saving advice.
Money Wise with Sam Parr: Sam talks to high net worth individuals about their relationship toward their wealth, including how they made their money and how they spend it.
If you're struggling with your relationship toward money, I'll share a bit more during a conversation I'm having with my coach this Wednesday.
If you can't make it live, feel free to RSVP, and I will send out the recording to you after!
