On Instagram the other day, I saw this post about 2026: the year of the horse.

Instagram post

Growing up, I would go to my Aunt Stacy’s house at least once a year to ride her horses. I fed them sugar cubes and apples and also connected with them—it’s one of my favorite core memories. When I think of horses, I think of majestic, soulful, and powerful animals.

Unlike 2025, which was a year of “shedding”, 2026 is going to be a year of “breakthroughs”.

When I reflect on my past year, this rings true.

I shed much of my old corporate work identity. Even in my personal life, I’ve shed beliefs that have kept me from showing up as my most authentic self. While I’m still the same Maggie, I show up differently now than in the beginning of the year.

Toward the latter half of 2025, I channeled my fire energy. I learned to trust myself more, launching new offers, trying on new identities, and forging my own path, even though it was uncertain.

Opportunities for 2026

Me being curious about what the year of the horse practically meant, I googled it and came across this article, which said it’s the year to:

  • Launch something new

  • Reclaim your independence

  • Lead

  • Trust your instincts

Here are a few things to think about as you channel your inner horse and prepare for 2026.

Launch something new

“This energy supports beginnings, and the Fire Horse provides the courage and momentum to actually do it.”

When you think of launching something new, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Maybe it’s a new business, career pivot, or offer that you’ve been noodling on for awhile. Use the next month to lay out an action plan toward making it a reality, so you can start momentum heading into next year.

If you’re afraid to launch something new, how can you reframe it as a fun experiment (vs a daunting project) for yourself?

Reclaim your independence

The Horse does not do well when it is fenced in or controlled. This energy will push against anything in your life that is limiting your freedom or authentic expression.”

I’ve titled this newsletter “Feeling Free” because it was the feeling I felt when I started working for myself. Every so often, it’s important to take an audit of your time and energy.

Where do you feel stuck or caged in? Write down the examples and three ways that you can reclaim your independence and embrace more freedom.

Leadership energy

You do not need to wait for someone else to give you permission or to go first. You can be the one who initiates.”

When we think of leadership, we can think of leading a team or a group of people. But when we lead ourselves, it means that we paint our own vision and follow through on it, tackling roadblocks that come our way.

When you think of a great leader you’ve worked with, what characteristics did they have? How can you start to embody those characteristics in 2026?

Trust your instincts

The Horse moves by feeling. It senses danger, it senses opportunity, and it responds instantly.”

If you’ve been following this newsletter for awhile, you’ve heard about the time when I didn’t listen to my intuition. Big decisions can be hard, but making decisions out of fear or scarcity isn’t the answer, even if you really want something to happen.

When you listen to your intuition, what does it say about next year? How can you cultivate more quiet moments to connect with your body?

Final thoughts

I’m all about embracing the horse energy for 2026, but you don't need everything figured out. You just need to trust yourself enough to take the first step.

Weekly Feels

I spent a week in the mountains at The Catskills Retreat. Every time I go up there, I visit the local restaurants and small towns.

I have visions of what a slower life might look as a cafe owner, baker, or live-in B&B host. I think we all imagine those alternative identities about ourselves from time to time.

While I’m happy with my dual lifestyle right now—the fast-paced city life, combined with the occasional trip upstate—there are lots of lifestyle decisions I’m making right now.

How much time do I want to spend in NYC this winter? Do I want to invest time and money into renovating my place upstate? Where should I travel (and work) next year?

That all to say, I talk through similar decisions with my clients, but I’m human too! I face these big (and fun) decisions myself. Next year feels like a year of momentum and growth already—I’m investing in a coaching program and re-starting business coaching. I’m excited what breakthroughs it’ll bring.
