There was a long period of time where I knew what I wanted, but I didn’t believe I could get there.

What I wanted was to quit corporate and start working for myself.

What I believed was that I could never make the same money as I did in my corporate career.

I remember talking to lots of people who had quit their job and a lot of their advice was to “Just do it! You’ll figure it out!”

But I wasn’t that kind of person.

I was the kind of person who saved money.

The kind of person who started working when she was 15.

The kind of person who felt guilty when she would spend money.

How was I going to go from making over $200K to nothing while living in NYC?

Going from point A (6-fig corporate life) to point B (6-fig solopreneur life) felt vast.

So instead of making the leap all at once, I built a financial bridge.

What is a financial bridge?

A financial bridge is the plan you put in place to support yourself while transitioning from one stage of your career (or life) to another.

It’s called a "bridge" because it helps you move from Point A → Point B safely and confidently.

A financial bridge could look like:

  • Savings: A cushion that gives you a few months of breathing room

  • Bridge income: Starting to earn income on the side from side hustles, while keeping your paycheck

  • Lifestyle tweaks: Cutting back expenses temporarily, so you buy yourself more runway

A bridge isn’t meant to be forever. It’s just enough to give you stability and peace of mind so you can take steps toward your goal without the panic of “how will I pay rent next month?”

Steps I took to build my bridge

1⃣ First, I changed my relationship with money. I started rewriting the old beliefs I had about money. I questioned if they still served me in moving forward. If they didn’t, I replaced them with new money beliefs.

2⃣ Next, I actually sat down to look at my numbers. I liked staying in a gray zone. I knew approximately how much I was spending each month, but I didn’t know on what. I got clarity on where my money was going, which helped me confidently spend to what was in alignment to my values.

3⃣ Finally, I made a plan. I determined how much “enough” was for me in the bridge period and in the future. I also figured out how much cash savings I needed before I left my job to feel secure.

Build your financial bridge

I’m doing 5 days of voice notes / audio where I go deeper into this topic. There will be some prompts for you to think about, but in general I’ll talk about:

  • How I overcame my financial fears to leave my 6-figure corporate tech career and build an aligned business of one

  • Why you feel stuck in the golden handcuffs (and how to fix it)

  • Money habits to start now while you have a full-time job

🧠 Final thoughts

I can tell you the tactical steps I took to build a financial bridge or what I’ve seen work for others.

But at the end of the day, making a leap into something new is about trusting yourself to know it’ll be OK.

For many of us, that doesn’t happen overnight but over repeated actions you take to build self trust in yourself to do the hard things that’ll get you closer to your goals.

Weekly Feels

What a week! I drove to the Catskills on Labor Day to enjoy summer at The Catskills Retreat one more time before it starts to get chilly.

Then when I got back, I had a site visit at the Manhattan Penthouse (planning a nonprofit’s gala in October), got a sneak peak to a new members club opening in Flatiron, worked in a coffee shop for a few hours, and played pickleball with some friends.

The next day I tried to fly out to California for a wedding but my flight was severely delayed and decided to rebook the flight for the next day. In the end, I made it to CA and the wedding was so beautiful! I also got to catch up with many friends I hadn’t seen in awhile

This week, I’m balancing client work + marketing for my upcoming cohort (the waitlist closes this Friday!). You could say I’m building my next bridge, too!
