This past week, I ended my contract with my product marketing client.

When I first took this role, it came at the perfect time—I was a few months into working for myself, and my income was low. While I prepared for a ramp up period, I would be lying if I didn’t say I was a bit worried if I’d find an opportunity to meet my bare minimum expenses. In NYC, these are pretty high 😄

The role part-time, paid $6K/month, and allowed me the space to explore how I could pick up additional clients in the events and retreats space. I knew it was my financial bridge to something bigger.

What started as $6K turned into $8K+ as I proved myself, took on more scope, and built relationships with the people I was working with.

Last week was my final week, and while they offered for me to stay, I would have been doing the same thing I was doing when I was working as a product marketer full-time. It didn’t feel in alignment to what I want to do next, even if I am leaving $8k+ of revenue on the table.

So as hard it is to say goodbye to “easy” money, I know that by releasing something else will bring in something new.

When to let go 🕊

We hold onto the safe, familiar path because it brings us a sense of security.

Whether it’s a job, relationship, or city—you might have a feeling in your heart that you want to change but know the journey is going to be difficult, so you stay hoping it’ll get better. And, sometimes it does.

Other times you convince yourself that staying is the right decision, even when it’s not. Only you can determine when you’re ready to let go.

Some people are ready to leave their job without a backup plan because they feel like it’ll force them to take action. Others save and save and save, waiting years to make any major moves until something triggers them to leave (e.g. bad boss, layoff, etc).

In this particular instance, it felt like it was time.

While there is some worrying about money, I’ve come a long way and have built up confidence with each step I’ve took that pushes me outside of my comfort zone— buying a house, quitting my job, and now, leaving my highest paying client.

To take a leap, you have to trust yourself and believe that you’re building toward something greater. And, the best way to build trust with yourself is to do what you’re actually saying you’re going to do.

Bringing in something new 💝

The beauty of letting go allows something new to come in.

For the last 8 months, I haven’t missed a week of posting this newsletter. I’ve been posting on LinkedIn consistently. And, I’m finally starting to see my hard work payoff.

Last week, I shared that I’m hosting my first free workshop on August 27: Career pivots for multi-passionate people. I would’ve been happy with 30 signups, but to get 50 is validating, exciting, and a bit scary, too!

Releasing my highest paying client has given me not just additional time but creative energy to pursue what this could become.

Ultimately, I want to do lots of things. Build events and retreats that bring people together. Help people feeling stuck in their corporate career build flexible, fulfilling lives. Travel the world!

Sometimes you have to release what’s no longer serving you to receive something even better.

🧠 Final thoughts

It’s hard to let go when there’s money involved, which directly impacts your feelings of safety. When you start to build self trust in yourself through taking action and following through, you start to create the life you want to live in.

Weekly Feels

I extended my stay in London one more week! I was feeling rushed trying to get everything done and then realized I didn’t need to be back in NYC this week.

I’m trying to channel more go-with-the-flow energy this summer, and it’s nice to have a lifestyle that supports me staying for another week if I want.

This week, I did lots of British activities. Took a day trip to Oxford, had afternoon tea, ate pub lunch, and tried my first Sunday roast! A few friends were in town as well, and it was nice hanging with people I knew well in a new city.

Of course, I don’t just want to share the highs. I got locked out of my flat at 1am on Saturday 🫠, have lost random things because I’m moving places each week, and the cat I was cat sitting peed in my suitcase and on my fave pair of shoes…

In the end though, not that bad! Totally 100% worth it.
